Srinagar: Taking cognisance of a social media post aiming to spread religious disharmony, Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday refuted the allegations that Arya Samaj temple in the downtown Srinagar has been set ablaze and vandalised.

A police spokesman said that Srinagar Police takes cognisance of a social media post aiming at spreading religious disharmony, adding that a case has been registered and investigation took up, he said.

He said on receipt of information from reliable sources, it has been revealed that some unknown anti-social miscreant had posted the fake news on social media network ‘Twitter’ using URL www.twitter com/vimarsh a baseless post regarding the alleged act of arson at Arya Samaj Temple Motiyar Rainawari.

The spokesperson said that the said Mandir is safe and intact and no act of arson has occurred there.

He further said that the accused has employed provocative language while posting this rumour to promote enmity between different religious groups and cause prejudice to religious harmony within and outside the district.

This deliberate act is manifestly bearing malice to cause outrage by hurting the religious feeling of Arya Samaj Hindu community not just.

The rumour/tweet is bearing the potential to create feelings of enmity hatred between different religious groups. The act attracts offences under sections 153, 153-A, 295-A, 298 and 505 of IPC.

Taking cognisance of the same case, an FIR No 61/2020 is registered at Police Station (PS) Rainawari Under Section 153 153-A. 295-A, 298 and 505 IPC and investigation is entrusted to SDPO Khanyar Srinagar. (UNI)
