UP: Mahoba teacher commits suicide after being harassed by SI

Mahoba: A 28-year-old teacher hanged himself and committed suicide allegedly after being harassed by the police in Srinagar area of Mahoba district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here on Friday.
 
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Satyam said that on Thursday afternoon Rajendra Pratap Singh, owner of a private school, had a dispute with liquor contractor Karan Rajput over some issue in Atrarmaf village. "Accusing Rajendra of assault and loot, Karan gave a complaint to the police," he said.
 
He said that it was alleged that without investigating the matter Sub Inspector (SI) Devendra Pandey posted at Srinagar police station reached Rajendra house and insulted the victim publicly and threatened to lodge a case and sent him to jail.
 
The ASP said that it has been alleged that perturbed with the incident Rajendra went to his field late on Thursday evening where he hanged himself from a tree and committed suicide. "After getting the news a large number of people from the neighbouring village assembled on the spot and created ruckus while raising slogans against the police," he said.
 
He said that later the senior police officers reached the spot and pacified the villagers and assured to take action against the SI. "Taking immediate action the SP has sent SI Devendra Pandey to lines," he said.
