Pink-ball Test: India beat England by 10 wickets, lead series 2-1

Ahmedabad: A clinical India thrashed England by 10 wickets in day-night (Pink ball) third Test, to take 2-1 series lead in the four match series, here on Thursday.India chased down the paltry target of 49 runs in 10.1 overs to knock England out of the race to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship final.
Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 25, finishing the match with a six, while Shubman Gill scored 15 not out in the chase.Earlier, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin shared nine wickets among them as England were bowled out for 81 in the second innings, to set India a paltry target of 49.
 
All-rounder Ben Stokes (25) and Ollie Pope (12) were the top-scorer for England.For India, Axar Patel picked five wickets in the second essay and claimed his first-ever 10-wicket match haul in Test cricket.
 
Ashwin, on the other hand, took four wickets, to cross the 400-wicket mark in the longest format of the game. He became the fourth Indian after Anil Kumble (619), Kapil Dev (434) and Harbhajan Singh (417), to achieve the feat.
 
In the first session, India were bowled out for 145 in their first innings with opener Rohit Sharma top-scoring with a 66-run knock. England captain Joe Root (5/8) picked up his first ever fifer in Test cricket.(UNI)
