World's largest stadium renamed as Narendra Modi stadium

Gandhinagar:The world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, Sardar Patel Cricket stadium, was renamed as Narendra Modi stadium on Wednesday.The new stadium in Motera of Ahmedabad, commonly called as Motera stadium, was inaugurated earlier in the day by President Ram Nath Kovid.
The stadium, having a sitting capacity of over 1 lakh spectators, hosted its first international match--India Vs England test match--after the inauguration.
 
It is said to be the dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The stadium, also a sports complex, has Natatorium, Athletics Track and Field, Football stadium, Field Hockey and Tennis Stadium, Indoor Sports Halls and Arenas, Outdoor Fields Veldrome abd Skating Area.It is spread over 200 acres on the Sabarmati river bank in the North East of Ahmedabad.The stadium was built by Gujarat Cricket Association, after the old stadium was demolished in 2014.
 
Last year, Mr Modi hosted the then President of United States Donald Trump, with a gigantic event--Namaste Trump--at the new stadium.(UNI)
