Even though the year 2020 didn’t live up to everyone’s expectations but in the end it gave us some interesting news.Last year in December, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the arrival of Tesla in India. Tesla is an American electric vehicle and clean energy company based in Palo Alto, California.

On January 8, Tesla finally registered its company in Bengaluru, India, and named it Tesla India Motors and Energy. However, it’s not confirmed if the company will only be doing R&;D and sales or also manufacture cars in India.

Elon Musk has chosen three directors for the said company and they are, Vaibhav Taneja, Venkatarangam Sreeram, and David Feinstein. Vaibhav Taneja is the Chief Accounting Officer and David Feinstein is the Senior Director of Global Trade and New Markets at Tesla.

Tesla’s arrival in India is a huge step towards development for the country and also, it will be economical for the environment. Elon Musk had hinted coming of Tesla to India in a tweet last year and now they also have an office for the same in India. However, the sales will not start before the second half of the year; but the more affordable Tesla Model 3 will be made available for pre-booking in a few weeks. It is the first car that Tesla will bring to India.

The cars will most probably be imported from the USA and will later be sold here in Bengaluru. The Tesla Model 3 will be priced INR 55 lac onwards. The sales will most likely be handled directly too as Tesla does in most countries.

The manufacturing will depend upon the response it gets from the market. However, for now, the company is only starting with the R&D.With Indian companies also trying out their hands in electric cars as they arebecoming the future, this could be a great step to move forward in this direction.(WD)
