Mumbai: He may have over the years, established a niche for himself in the films of action and comedy genre, but Bollywood actor and filmmaker Ajay Devgn says that acting is not just about doing a particular genre but rather about one’s performance in front of the camera.

'As an actor, when you wake up in the morning and go on the sets you don't plan your day like 'today I am going to enter this genre'.An actor has nothing to do with genre. He becomes that character when in front of the camera, he performs," Ajay said at an interactive session last evening during the CII Big Picture Summit 2016.

Ajay, who is awaiting the release of his directorial venture ‘Shivaay’, which is slated for release on Diwali, said he looked at every role that came to him as a challenge regardless of the genre of the film."For me, every role is challenging,’’Ajay, who was accompanied by his co-stars Erica Kar and Sayesha, said.

Asked about the changes witnessed by him during his journey in Bollywood, from his debut film ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ to ‘Shivaay’, he said that while the working of the film industry had become more professional, there had been a decrease in the degree of warmth in the industry.
'
Things have changed a lot in the industry since I made my debut.Today, actors have started taking their work more seriously than they did back in 90s.Things have become more professional. When I came in the industry, we weren't allowed to shoot for more than 11 films.

There were no promotions, no vanity vans. I think everything has changed for good except for one thing. Earlier, there was more warmth in the industry.Every body liked everybody.
There were no problems and no issues.

I miss that warmth. That's the major change, which I see today," Ajay said. Directed and co-produced by Ajay Devgn, "Shivaay" is slated to release on October 28 and will clash at the box office with filmmaker Karan Johar's "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil". The film also stars Sayyeshaa Saigal, Erika Kaar, Vir Das and Girish Karnad. (UNI)
