‘Darlings’ explores the lives of a mother-daughter duo trying to find their place in Mumbai seeking courage and love in exceptional circumstances while fighting against all odds. The film was one of the most successful and critically acclaimed films of the year 2022 and brings together some of the most versatile actors, including Alia (Badru), Shefali Shah (Shamshu), Vijay Varma (Hamza) and Roshan Mathew (Zulfi).
The chemistry between Alia (Badru) and Shefali (Shamshu) is comical, magnetic and heartwarming. Badru’s unconditional love for her husband Hamza, makes her overlook the issues in their relationship. Her mother’s (Shefali) constant warnings go unnoticed as well. But when his actions go a bit too far, she and her mother bravely, and interestingly, seek justice.
Deemed as one of Alia’s best performances, the film graces us with great one-liners, a great storyline, fantastic dialogue delivery and endearing characters. Darlings will make you laugh, cry, and be angry all at once - it is a story you absolutely cannot miss!
Whilst talking about her experience, Alia said, “Darlings marked a lot of firsts for me, it was the first time I played a character like Badru, and I loved the script so much that I decided to co-produce a film for the first time as well. While working on Darlings, I have not only grown as an actor but also learnt so much as a producer. It’s been a one-of-a-kind film, as it speaks of something socially relevant, yet in an entertaining way. I am glad the audiences connected with it so much and had fun watching it, as much fun we had making it.”
Shefali shared, “I immediately felt for the character of Shamshu, knew where she came from, understood how she spoke and felt towards her daughter. All the characters in the film are well-written, layered and importantly relatable. It is what the audiences appreciated about the film and showered it with so much love.”
Vijay added, “Darlings is a labor of love made possible by the dedication of some of the most brilliant minds in the business. I was surrounded by individuals that inspire and teach me. I took on the role of Hamza as a challenge, as it was a character who is far from who I am personally. I am humbled by all the love I have received and the how well the audiences have connected with the film.”It will air on January 29 at 12 pm.(UNI)
