'Coolie: The Powerhouse' roars past Rs 160 crore in opening weekend

Mumbai: South Indian film superstar Rajinikanth's "Coolie: The Powerhouse" has earned more than Rs 168 crore during its first weekend in the Indian market.

Directed by visionary filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Kalanthi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, the film premiered on August 14 to resounding acclaim. Audiences have lauded Rajinikanth's magnetic screen presence and trademark charisma, while Nagarjuna's brooding and menacing portrayal has added remarkable depth to the film's narrative.

The story of "Coolie" chronicles the journey of a former gold smuggler named Deva, who wants to regain his old identity by reviving his old gang with the stolen technology concealed within vintage golden timepieces. Adding to the spectacle is a stellar supporting cast including Sathyaraj, Upendra and Shruti Haasan, along with a surprise cameo by Aamir Khan.

According to the report of trade website Sacnilk, "Coolie" earned a brilliant amount of Rs 65 crore in the Indian market on the first day and on the second day, the film earned Rs 54.75 crore.

Early estimates place the third-day Rs 38.6 crore on the third day and on the fourth day it earned Rs 9.91 crore, pushing its domestic tally to Rs 168.26 crore within four days. With the momentum on its side, industry experts predict the film will soon breach the coveted Rs 200 crore club, fortifying Rajinikanth's enduring legacy as Indian cinema's unassailable megastar.
