Deepika Padukone to be honoured at WEF, slated to speak on ‘stigma’ on mental illness

New Delhi: Film actress Deepika Padukone will be among the ‘exceptional cultural leaders’ to be honoured at the World Economic Forum beginning Monday at Davos in the Swiss Alps.

According to an announcement, Ms Padukone and four others will be honoured at the Annual Crystal Award Ceremony for their contribution in improving the state of the world through their outstanding contributions.

Ms Padukone has also been listed as one of key speakers for a session on Health and contribution can be made on ending the stigma surrounding mental illness.

The Bollywood star would also share the stage with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, DG of the World Health Organisation on January 21, Tuesday.

Over 100 CEOs from India would be part of the rich and powerful from across the globe to discuss matters related to a ‘cohesive and sustainable world’ during the World Economic Forum meet.

Another popular Indian, Sadhguru, will hold morning meditation sessions at the summit.

Among the World leaders, US President Donald Trump will deliver his address on Tuesday.

At the session ‘The Strategic Outlook: Indian Ocean Rim’, Union Commerce and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal will make his observation and he will share stage among others with Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World.

The Davos Manifesto 2020 provides a vision for stakeholder capitalism that touches on a range of important issues including zero tolerance for corruption and respect for human rights.

“Business has now to fully embrace stakeholder capitalism, which means not only maximizing profits, but use their capabilities and resources in cooperation with governments and civil society to address the key issues of this decade. They have to actively contribute to a more cohesive and sustainable world,” said Klaus Schwab, WEF Founder and Executive Chairman. (UNI)
