Chennai: The Chennai City police have arrested two people in connection with the theft of large quantity of gold, diamond and silver jewelleries at the residence of Rajinikanth's daughter Aishwarya in the city last evening.
Police on Wednesday said those arrested were domestic help, Eswari (46), who has been working in the house for several years, and driver K.Venkatesan( 44).
The duo had stolen large quantities of jewellery and cash in small components over the years. They sold the items and bought a house valued at Rs one crore, in the city.
Police recovered 100 sovereigns of gold jewellery, 30 g of diamond, four kg of silver articles and property documents from them.
Ms.Aishwarya, who had not been regularly visiting her house at Poes Garden and left it to the domestic help for maintaitning it, had in her complaint said she found that many pieces of jewellery has been missing from her safe locker.
Aishwarya said the stolen jewellery included diamond jewel sets, antique gold jewellery and gold bangles.
She said he had last worn them during her sister Soundarya’s wedding in 2019 and the jewelleries were kept in a locker after the wedding and that Aishwarya alone had the keys.
She also suspected the involvement of her domestic help Eswari, who had been working with her for the past 18 years.
They were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. (UNI)
