Former Miss India Rinky Chakma passes away at 28 following her battle with cancer
Rinky, who was diagnosed with a malignant Phyllodes tumour (breast cancer) in 2022, underwent surgery in the initial stage of her battle. Despite her resilience, the cancer spread to her lungs and eventually to her brain, leading to a brain tumour.
On February 22, Rinky was admitted to Max Hospital Saket in critical condition, where she fought bravely while being on a ventilator in the ICU. Her health deteriorated as one of her lungs was almost non-functioning due to the cancer. During this time, many beauty queens took to Instagram, sharing updates on Rinky's condition and urging support to raise funds for her treatment.
Several weeks prior, Rinky had reached out on Instagram, appealing for financial assistance for her surgery. Over the past two years, she and her family have been tirelessly managing hospital visits, with many generous individuals stepping forward to contribute to her cause.
In 2017, Rinky's dedication to serving her community earned her two sub-titles during the Miss India competition: Miss Congeniality and Beauty With a Purpose. Her efforts to improve the lives of people in her village, from infrastructure projects to livelihood enhancements, left a lasting impact. It was no surprise that her fellow contestants recognised her kindness with the Miss Congeniality title. The crown that year ultimately went to Manushi Chhillar of Haryana.
As Rinky Chakma bids farewell to this world, we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and admirers. Her legacy of bravery, grace, and selflessness will forever remain in our hearts. May her soul rest in peace.
