KGF surpasses Zero by a whisker in the first weekend

Mumbai: This weekend was all about the recently released movies Shah Rukh Khan's Zero, the much-anticipated movie of 2018 and Yash starrer KGF: Chapter 1 (Kolar Gold Fields) which was released in five languages. Both were released on the same day. While Zero has been under-performing, KGF is going beyond the expectations. 
Concentrating on stats, the film Zero debuted with Rs 20.14 crores on the first day, while the expectation was about surpassing Rs 25 crores. On the second day the stats declined with a collection of Rs. 18.22 crores. Neither the sunday collections fulfilled the expectations and marked only  Rs. 20.71 crores. At the end of first weekend the film was able to do a collection of Rs 59.07 crore, even after starring the trio, Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. It was expected to touch Rs. 100 crores by this time. 

On the other hand, Yash’s Film had a rocking first weekend. On Day 1 it made a box office collection of Rs. 18.1 crores and on Day 2 it continued the trend and stayed strong against alongside released Bollywood biggie Zero and marked a collection of Rs.19.2 crores. And on Day 3 it collected Rs.22.4 crores. As per the latest reports, its 3-day Worldwide gross stands at Rs 59.61 crores. 
 
Despite tough competition from movies in other languages like Zero (Hindi),  the Kannada film has been well received by the audience as well as critics. (WD)
