Mumbai: One of the top filmmakers in India, Karan Johar, on Wednesday announced his highly famous celebrity talk show "Koffee with Karan" is ending. Karan took to his Instagram to bring out the unfortunate news for many dedicated fans.
For all those waiting for a new season, the show will not be returning came as a bit of a shock, especially with a number of high profile shadis in the tinstletown just hogging all headlines in which KJo was key attendee.
Captioning his note as "Important Announcement", the director-writer-producer-host wrote "Hello, Koffee With Karan has been a part of my life, and yours, for 6 seasons now. "I'd like to think we've made an impact and even found our place in pop culture history. And so, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that Koffee With Karan will not be returning.. (signed off) Karan Johar."
Well known name throughout the film industry and best known for launching many new faces and also accused of being "nepotism's flag bearer", Karan's mega hit films include “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, “Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham”, “Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna”, “My Name Is Khan”.
He was also involved as producer in various films such as "Bahubali", “Dostana”, “Wake Up Sid”, “Student Of The Year”, “Shershaah”, “Gehraiyaan” among others.
"Koffee with Karan" is one of India's most popular chat shows, so the news has received mixed responses.
For fans of the show, the news has naturally not gone down well who took to social media to express their dismay at the news.
One person wrote “End of an era”, another wrote "No Karan...you can't do this!!".
Another disappointed social media user wrote in confusion over the decision "But why?? It was an excellent show."
"That's really sad !! KWK was and will always be an iconic guilty pleasure for many,” another person wrote.

The critics were far less disappointed, however whose responses ranged from joy to sheer indifference as they called it a good sign and took sharp digs at the show.

The show has always managed to capture the attention of the paparazzi and make headlines. In fact, fans were hoping the newly married couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor would make an appearance in the new season of the show.
But for all its popularity, the show was also been mired in controversy and was wrapped in the veil of infamy with the most common criticism that is hurled at the show is for promoting nepotism in Bollywood, sexist remarks, guests making underbelly pot shots at each other whether they are sexual, obscene or otherwise.
Whatever be the case, with Koffee having gone cold after all these years, the fans are bound to be disappointed.
The first season of the talk show premiered in 2004 with actors Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Over the span of the next 15 years the show has featured an entourage of big names including Salman Khan, Lara Dutta, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anurag Kashyap, Prabhas, S.S Rajamouli, Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Sidharth Malhotra, Katrina Kaif and many more. Then there were cricketers who did a 'big book boo', besides who can forget Kangana Ranaut.
The show had its sixth and final season on March 17, 2019. (UNI)
