New Delhi: On the occasion of her birthday on September 28, Lata Mangeshkar is remembered in Bollywood as a playback legend who ruled the hearts of music lovers for over eight decades with the magic of her voice.
Born on September 28 (1929), in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Lata Mangeshkar's father, Dinanath Mangeshkar, was associated with Marathi theatre.
At the age of five, Lata started acting in plays with her father.
At the same time, Lata started learning music from her father.
She sang her first song for the film Kitty Haasal in 1942, but her father did not like Lata's singing for films and removed the song from that film.
In 1942, at the young age of 13, Lata's father's shadow fell from her head, and the responsibility of the family fell on her.
Later, her family moved to Mumbai.
Lata did not like acting in films at all, but taking on the financial responsibility of her family, she started acting in films.
In the year 1942, Lata got a chance to act in 'Pehli Mangalagaur'.
In 1945, Lata met music composer Ghulam Haider.
Ghulam Haider was very impressed with Lata's singing style.
Ghulam Haider requested that filmmaker S. Mukherjee give Lata a chance to sing in his film Shaheed.
S.M. Mukherjee did not like Lata's voice and refused to cast her in his film.
Ghulam Haider was very angry about this and said this girl will make such a name in the future that big producers and directors will request her to sing in their films. (UNI)
