Pune: A magistrate court in Mumbai will on February 13 hear a criminal case filed by film producer Shakeel Noorani against Bollywood film actor Sanjay Dutt.
Talking to UNI here on Saturday, prominent Supreme Court lawyer Aashutosh Shrivastava, who represents Mr Noorani, said that the case is pending before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Andheri in Mumbai since 2013.
The same court on Saturday put on hold until February 13 the hearing of application, filed by the film producer on December 10, 2018, seeking to remove the special exemption given to the actor from personal appearance before the trial court in the case.
Arguing before the court, Mr Shrivastava said that no body is above the law and pointed that the actor should not get any privileges and be treated as a common person.
The court subsequently has fixed February 13 as the next date of hearing, Mr Shrivastava added.
Mr Noorani has filed a case of cheating against Mr Dutt, after the actor allegedly refused to refund Rs 50 lakh that the producer had given to him as a booking amount for acting in the latter’s film, titled ‘Jaan Ki Baazi’ in 2001.
It was alleged that Mr Dutt had deliberately failed to appear during the scheduled shooting of the film. He had even threatened to kill Mr Noorani for demanding the refund of his money. (UNI)
