New Delhi: Netflix has decided to cancel the spy-action dramedy FUBAR, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, after two seasons. The surprise cancellation occurs less than eight weeks after the Season-2 premiere on June 12 this year. The show was Schwarzenegger's first starring role in a scripted TV series.
The cancellation is a result of a precipitous 73 per cent decline in viewership between its seasons: Season-1 accumulated 1.53 billion viewing minutes in its initial release in May 2023.
During its 2nd season launch weekend, the show earned 2.2 million views, a steep drop from the 11 million views that greeted its premiere season. It peaked at #7 in its first full week with 3.3 million views and barely held onto the #10 spots in Week 3 with 1.8 million, before vanishing from the rankings.
FUBAR starred Schwarzenegger as CIA agent Luke Brunner, whose retirement is interrupted upon learning his daughter (played by Monica Barbaro) is also an undercover agent. During Season 2, Carrie Anne Moss was added to the cast as Greta Nelso, retired East German spy and Brunner's past flame.
Additional cast members were Milan Carter, Jay Baruchel, Fortune Feimster, Travis Van Winkle, and Aparna Brielle.
Even with the initial buzz and glamour, season two did not live up to Netflix's expectations. The show's writing and production received lukewarm reception from viewers and critics alike, and viewership declined drastically.
Regarding upcoming projects, Arnold is set to appear in the action film 'King Fury 2', directed by David Sandberg. The film follows the 2015 release 'King Fury'. David Sandberg will take on the leading role in the production.
