PM Narendra Modi congratulates Grammy winner Falguni Shah, singer replies 'This Award is for India'

New Delhi: Indian-American singer Falguni Shah, who won a Grammy Award for "A Colorful World" in the Best Children's Album category, was congratulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

Shah, who goes by the moniker Falu Shah, and is the only Indian-origin woman to be nominated in the category twice for the Grammys, won the award for the first time at the 64th edition on Sunday in Las Vegas.

Amid a wave of congratulatory messages, the one that stood out in particular, was Modi's on Tuesday: "Congratulations to Falguni Shah on winning the award for the Best Children's Music Album at the Grammys. Wishing her the very best for her future endeavours."

The singer expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister and also retweeted the message with the comment: “I am so honored Honorable Prime Minister Modiji. Thank you for your encouragement. This Award is for India. I'm the daughter of India and it is my dream to see India getting represented again and again on a global level!" She also tagged the Recording Academy.

On Monday, sharing photos from the Grammys 2022 on her social media, Shah said: "I have no words to describe today's magic. What an honor to perform for the opening number of the GRAMMY Premier Ceremony, and then take home a statue on behalf of all the incredible people who worked on A Colorful World. We are humbled and thank the Recording Academy for this tremendous recognition. THANK YOU!"

The majority of the 2022 Grammy Awards were handed out at the LeVar Burton-hosted GRAMMY Premiere Ceremony, which kickstarted the Grammys on Sunday at a Pre-Televised event.

Falu Shah did the opening number alongside Madison Cunningham, Nnenna Freelon, Kalani Pe'a, John Popper and The Isaacs, while other Premiere Ceremony performances included Jimmie Allen, Ledisi, Mon Laferte, Allison Russell and Curtis Stewart.

Others who were nominated for Best Children's Album were 'Activate' by 123 Andres, 'All One Tribe' by 1 Tribe Collective, 'Black to the Future' by Pierce Freelon, 'Crayon Kids' by Lucky Diaz, and the Family Jam Band.

Falguni who is currently in her 40s moved to the US in 2000, toured with her Boston-based husband Gaurav Shah on the fusion band Karyshma, and has even released a self-titled solo album in the US in 2007, blending elements of folk from across the Southeast Asia with Western music.

She has even performed and collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma, Wyclef Jean, Philip Glass, Ricky Martin, Blues Traveler, as well as with music maestro and Grammy winner AR Rahman. (UNI)
