Chennai: Six months after making his political foray by floating his own outfit, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), founder and popular actor Vijay unveiled his party flag at the party headquarters at suburban Panaiyur, on the ECR, here on Thursday.

He said the party's "victory flag", is the symbol of Tamil Nadu and emphasised the need for working together for the development of Tamil Nadu.

The flag symbolises the victory of the future generations of the State.

Speaking after unveiling the flag, he said preparations are on for holding the first state conference of the TVK and an announcement on its date and venue would be made soon.

Before unveiling the flag, Vijay, who was given a rousing reception by his cadres and supporters, administered a pledge to them to uphold the principle of equality for all.

"We will always remember the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters for our country's Independence and innumerable soldiers, who fought for the rights of our people from Tamil
Nadu", he said, administering the pledge.

The pledge read "I will remove the differences in the name of caste, religion, gender and place of birth, create awareness among the people and strive for equal opportunities and equal rights for all". I solemnly affirm that I will uphold the principle of equality for all living beings," reads the pledge that the Actor-politician made his cadre take.

"August 22, 2024 is the day that God and nature have given us as such a blessing", he added.

The red-yellow-red coloured flag has the 'Vaagai' (victory) flower as the central motif. Kings in the Sangam age wore garlands made of these flowers to symbolise victory.

The flag will also featured the images of two victory elephants on it.

Vijay also hoisted the TVK flg at the party office after unveiling it in the presence of his father
S.A.Chandasekar, also a popular director, and mother Shoba.

Though he had announced his political entry and formed his own party a few months back, Vijay's party was yet to take the electoral plunge.

His party did not contest the Local body polls and the Lok Sabha polls and also announced that he would not extend support to any party.

Vijay, who had been regularly organising various events to provide welfare schemes and educational assistance to board exam toppers, had said that his target was the 2026 Assembly elections in which the TVK would contest all the 234 seats and make an impact.

Vijay's foray into politics and formation of a new party has been welcomed by various political parties.
