Popular Odia singer Tapu Mishra dies of post COVID complications

Bhubaneswar: A versatile playback singer Tapu Mishra passed away at a private hospital here last night while undergoing treatment for post covid complications. She was 36.
The young Odia singer who lost her father in Covid on May 10 last was in home isolation after she was also tested covid positive and later shifted to a private hospital on May 19 when her oxygen saturation dropped drastically.
Family sources said although she recovered from the Covid but her lungs were very badly affected and she was shifted to another private hospital in the city where she breathed last night at about 11 PM after struggling with her life with full ventilator support.
The family members had planned to shift her to Kolkata for ECMO treatment but the idea of shifting her to Kolkata for better treatment was finally dropped as she was not responding to any treatment.
In her two decades long singing career, Tapu had lent her voice in over 150 films and as many as 500 songs to her credit in albums, classical, bhajan and item songs.
Besides Odia, she also sang in Bengali, Hindi and other languages and won four state film awards. She married an Ollywood actor only in December last.
Several Odia cine stars have condoled the untimely demise of what they called Odisha's melody queen.
Actor Sritam Das described her demise at such a young stage as a big loss to the Odia film industry and also a huge personal loss for him.
Actor Sabyasachi Mishra also condoled and took to Twitter writing an emotional condolence message in her memory.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also mourned the death of Tapu Mishra. Expressing his profound grief Mr.Pradhan said the Odia film industry had lost a versatile singer in her death.
Music Director Prem Anand and noted music director Laxmikant Palit also expressed their profound grief at the demise of Tapu Mishra. (UNI)
