Mohali: The Punjabi entertainment world is grieving the loss of celebrated comedian and actor Dr. Jaswinder Bhalla, who passed away at 65. He suffered a severe stroke two days ago and was rushed to a private hospital in Mohali. Despite medical efforts, his health worsened last night, and he passed away early Friday morning around 4 am.

His family has announced that his cremation will take place on Saturday at 1 pm in Mohali’s Balongi cremation ground. Bhalla’s daughter, who was abroad in Europe, is returning today and expected to reach Mohali by evening, while his son is already in Mohali.

Born on May 4, 1960, in Doraha, Ludhiana, Bhalla rose to fame with his debut comedy show 'Chhankata 88' in 1988, introducing the iconic character Chacha Chatra. He later ventured into films, starring in hits like 'Dulla Bhatti' and earning acclaim for his roles in popular movies such as 'Carry On Jatta'. His humor and deep connection to Punjabi culture made him a beloved figure.

Apart from his entertainment career, Bhalla was a dedicated professor at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and served as its brand ambassador. He worked tirelessly to promote agricultural advancements and educate farmers, leaving a lasting impact on rural communities.

In 2022, Bhalla endured a traumatic incident when his Mohali residence was robbed. Thieves held his elderly mother hostage, fleeing with valuables, including cash, jewelry, and a licensed revolver. At the time, Bhalla and his son and daughter-in-law were away, leaving only his mother and a domestic worker at home. Police later discovered the worker’s involvement in the crime.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed his condolences following the passing of Jaswinder Bhalla, stating, "The loss of Jaswinder Bhalla is truly heartbreaking. His laughter brought immense joy to millions, and his absence leaves a profound void. May his soul rest in peace, and may the spirit of Chacha Chatra continue to live on in our hearts."

Bhalla’s legacy as a comedian, actor, and advocate for farmers will continue to inspire and entertain generations.
