Telangana film awards: 'Kalki 2898 AD' bags best film, Allu Arjun & Nivetha Thomas named best actor, actress

After a gap of nearly 14 years, the Telangana government has announced the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards 2024 to promote the Telugu film industry.

The awards were jointly announced during a press conference held at Samachar Bhave, AC Guards, Masabtank, here on Thursday by Telangana State Film Development Corporation (FDC) Chairman and producer Dil Raju and senior actress Jayasudha, who served as the jury chairperson.,

The Best Feature Film Award was won by Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, who also received the Best Director Award.

Pottel was awarded Second Best Feature Film, and Lucky Baskar received the Third Best Feature Film award.

In the acting categories, Allu Arjun won Best Actor for his performance in Pushpa 2, while Nivetha Thomas (credited for 35 – Idi Chinna Katha Kadu) won Best Actress.

Other major awardees include:

Best Supporting Actor: S. J. Suryah (Saripodhaa Sanivaram)

Best Supporting Actress: Saranya Pradeep (Ambajipeta Marriage Band)

Best Music Director: Beams (Razakar)

Best Playback Singer (Female): Shreya Ghoshal (Pushpa 2)

Best Comedians: Satya and Vennela Kishore (Mathu Vadalara)

Best Child Artists: Master Arun Dev and Baby Harika (35 – Idi Chinna Katha Kadu).

Best Story Writer: Shiva Paladugu (Music Shop Murthy)

Best Lyricist: Chandrabose (Raju Yadav)

Best Screenplay Writer: Venkay Athuri (Lucky Baskar)

Best Cinematographer: Vishwanath Reddy (Gami)

A festive atmosphere prevailed at the announcement event, reflecting the revival of state-level film recognitions. The awards, named after the late revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, are set to be presented annually. This marks the first time the Telangana government is honouring film personalities since the formation of the state in 2014.

A total of 1,248 entries were received for the awards. The jury, led by Jayasudha, carefully reviewed the applications before finalising the winners.

In addition to the competitive categories, special honorary awards were also announced in the names of legendary figures such as N T Rama Rao, Paidi Jairaj, B. N. Reddy, Nagireddy–Chakrapani, Kantha Rao, and Raghupathi Venkaiah.

Earlier in the day, the jury committee, led by Jayasudha and Dil Raju, presented the award details to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
