'Toilet Ek Prem Katha' earns approx Rs 15 cr on opening day

Mumbai: The Akshay Kumar starrer 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha' witnessed a good opening at the box office, earning approximately Rs 15 crore at the box office in its opening day, trade sources said today.According to trade sources, 'Toilet ek Prem Katha', which has released in 3,000 screens in India and 590 screens in overseas, opened on a lukewarm note with the morning shows witnessing an occupancy of 30-35 per cent at the box office.However, it picked up in the evening shows.
Early estimates indicated that the film could gross Rs 15 crore on its opening day yesterday.Trade sources said that this film opening is better than Akshay 's last film 'Rustom' which earned Rs 14.11 crores on its opening day.Trade sources also said that the film has the advantage of a long weekend given the fact that Monday is Janamashtami and Tuesday too is a public holiday on occassion of Independence Day.
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swacch Bharat mission, the film revolves around a small town, where a newly-wed couple as in Akshay and Bhumi Pednekar – and how the lack of a proper toilet at home divide them.The film is about the ordinary man’s extraordinary journey in bringing awareness and solution to his town about the proper use and need of sanitation.
