Aarsha Vidya Samajam organised a special screening of noted filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s film The Bengal Files at PVR Cinemas, Lulu Mall, Yesterday at 5.30 pm.The screening, attended by several distinguished personalities, was aimed at revisiting the historical realities of India’s Partition in 1947, which displaced nearly 20 million people and claimed about two million lives.
The organisers said the film highlights key historical events such as the Direct Action Day riots in Calcutta (August 16, 1946) and the subsequent Noakhali massacre, which hastened the acceptance of Partition.According to Aarsha Vidya Samajam, the film also draws parallels between the past and present, pointing to patterns of demographic and extremist challenges in Bengal, Kashmir and beyond.“It is our moral duty to watch this film, reflect on history, and ensure that the tragedy of Partition is never repeated,” they said.Earlier, The organisers urged viewers to confirm attendance in advance to secure seats and requested all invitees to arrive at the theatre by 5.30 pm sharp.(UNI)
