The seasonal ratings of the BARC are out and we do not see much difference in the list of the
Top 5 shows but surprisingly Kaun Banega Crorepati season 12 and Big Boss season 14 are missing in this list.
The 12 th season of KBC aired a little later than usual on September 28, 2020 facing a delay in the shoot because of CoVid-19.
The beloved show is a highlight of the day for many Indian households but this time its charm
seems to have faded. Although the Mahanayak of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan can hold the
audience because of his charm knowing his fan following that watches the show regularly but it
still wasn’t enough to keep the rating intact.
Another such show popular among Indians is the controversial reality drama Bigg Boss. This year, being its 14 th season, it seems to not have attracted the audience in the gossips as
much. It is said to not even entertain the people as much as the earlier seasons.
One big reason can be the senior’s saga, where the former Bigg Boss contestants overshadowed the popularity of the newcomers in the house. The other participants do not seem to gain much significance in the seniors’ presence. And the Bollywood star show host,
Salman Khan seems uninterested in the current season. The tasks aren’t entertaining enough and are too obscene this time which has led the netizens to start boycotting the show with #BoycottBB14. The tasks given by the host are “vulgar” and not encouraged by the audience. The show seems to have stooped too low for TRPs but couldn’t get them either way.
The audience doesn’t seem to be interested in voting or liking the performance of the participants. If the same continues, this season might be the least liked in the show’s history.
IPL 2020 was watched by 158 million people in the opening week whereas Bigg Boss 14 lost its TRPs and dropped down to the 14 th position which a rating of 1.6 in the first week.
Some other reasons for this decline can be –
Indian Premier League
The IPL this year was supposed to take place in March-April but was shifted to September-
October seeing the pandemic crisis, which pulled the majority of KBC and Bigg Boss watchers.
The airing time of the show KBC and IPL is same which puts the viewers in a dilemma to choose between the two.
Bollywood is in trouble!
The allegations that Bollywood had to face, following the death of Sushant Singh Rajput have
still not silenced. And later, Jaya Bachchan taking Bollywood’s side in the drug abuse can be a
reason people are condemning her family member? Possibly…
The #boycottbollywood was also trending right after the Chhichore actor’s death, suspected to
be a murder and that can be the reason of the shows not performing as good as before on
Indian television as they’re both hosted by Bollywood bigwigs.
Fading interest towards Quiz shows
The youth today prefers OTT platforms to consume content. It’s mostly movies or TV series on
Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar, Voot or Alt Balaji. These shows offer them a rhythm and a flow
to keep them hooked whereas very little people still go towards Quiz shows.
