Eminent litterateur Samaresh Majumdar passes away

Kolkata: Noted litterateur Samaresh Majumdar, who traversed the path of Bengali literature like a colossus, breathed his last on Monday.
 
He was 79.
 
Famous for his political trilogy – ‘Uttaradhikar’, ‘Kalbela’ and ‘Kalpurush’, Majumdar was conferred the Sahitya Akademi Award’ for ‘Kalbela’, which was a vivid penpicture of the then Naxalite movement in Bengal.
 
His other notable creations are Garbhadharini, Singhabahini and Kolikatay Nabakumar.
 
Majumder was also awarded ‘Bangavibhushan’ by the West Bengal Government in 2018.

Expressing her profound grief, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee described his passing away as an “irreparable loss to the literary world”. She also conveyed her condolences to the bereaved family.
 
Taking to twitter, Banerjee said, " We mourn the loss of Sahitya Akademi Award winning Bengali literateur, Samaresh Majumdar. "
 
"Best known for his political trilogy – ‘Uttaradhikar’, ‘Kalbela’ & ‘Kalpurush’ – Majumdar's writing was marked by a unique blend of realism and imagination. Spanning over five decades, Majumdar's literary career captured the essence of Bengali culture & society and conveyed deep emotions & complex ideas in great nuance, " she added.
 
Extending her deepest condolences to his family and friends, Banerjee said, " May they find the strength and courage to navigate through this tough time. "
 
BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said, "Deeply saddened to know about the passing away of the famous Bengali writer Samaresh Majumdar. My deepest condolences to his well wishes and family members. May Prabhu give sadgati to his departed soul." (UNI)
