Thiruvananthapuram: CPI (M) has courted a controversy after erecting flex boards of Jesus Christ as part of the party's ongoing area committee meeting in Parasala.Various Christian organisations expressed their displeasure over using the portrait of Christ for political purpose. Latin Catholic Association expressed its unhappiness saying political parties use such symbols to nurse the peoples’ religious sentiments.
“The flex boards should be removed as it hurt the sentiments of the believers,”Association President Raju said on Tuesday.Local Congress and BJP leaders said the flex reflects the political strategy of the CPI (M) targeting the minority votes. As a secular party, CPI-M is betraying its ideology and the political parties should keep away from misusing religious sentiments, they added.
The area committee meeting is being held from December 11 to 14. The flex boards of Jesus were placed between Parasala Post office and the venue of the party meeting. The flex boards of party' senior leaders also exhibited in large numbers in the area.(UNI)
