Active cases of nCOV touches 1.6 Lakh mark in past 24 hours

New Delhi: India on Tuesday reported 1,61,736 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the total case tally to 1,36,89,453, the data by the Union Health Ministry stated on Thursday.

The death toll mounted to 1,71,058 with 879 more fatalities in the past day. The fatality rate stood at 1.25 per cent.
 
According to the Ministry data, the active cases rose by 63,689 to stand at 12,64,698. It is now 9.24 per cent of the total caseload.
 
The past 24 hours saw 97,168 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,22,53,697, which is 89.51 per cent of the case tally.
 
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 25,92,07,108 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 14,00,122 were tested in the past one day.
 
On the vaccination front, a total of 10,85,33,085 people have been vaccinated across the country till now with 40,04,521 vaccinations administered in the past 24 hours.

Maharashtra registers 51,751 fresh cases
 
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, a total of 51,751 fresh cases, the highest single day surge across the state, mounted the total number of infections to 34,58,996.
 
The state also registered 258 more deaths, taking the death toll to 58,245.Meanwhile, the highest number of 52,312 patients recovered and were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 28,34,473 across the state.
 
The state's recovery rate currently stands at 81.94 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.68 per cent.At present there are 5,64,746 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, they added.
 
It may be noted that in view of rising cases, the state government has imposed strict restrictions and weekend curfew across the state under the initiative of ' break the chain.’
