COVID-19: India logs 37,379 new cases, omicron tally at 1,892

New Delhi: India recorded 37,379 new COVID cases during the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

As per the bulletin issued by the Ministry, the total caseload rose to 3,49,60,261, while the death toll rose to 4,82,017 as 124 more people succumbed to the virus.

On a positive note, 11,007 more people recovered from the disease during the same period, taking the total tally of recoveries to 3,43,06,414.

The recovery rate currently stands at 98.13 per cent.

The active caseload now stands at 1,71,830, the figures showed.

According to the bulletin, a total of 1,892 cases of the new variant of COVID-19 Omicron have been detected in the country so far. Maharashtra has reported the highest at 568, followed by Delhi 382 and Kerala 185.

Out of these, 766 people have been discharged/recovered/ migrated, the Ministry said.

The Ministry further said, 68.24 crore tests for COVID-19 have been done so far.

India has administered 146.70 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive. (UNI)
