COVID-19: India reports 50,040 new cases, 1,258 deaths in last 24 hrs

New Delhi: India reported 50,040 new cases of Covid-19 during the past 24 hours while the death toll soared to 3,95,751 with 1,258 more fatalities.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases declined by 9,162 to stand at 5,86,403. It is now 1.94 per cent of the total caseload.
Of the fresh fatalities, 511 were reported from Maharashtra, 148 from Tamil Nadu, 118 from Kerala, 115 from Karnataka and so on. The cumulative fatality rate stood at 1.31 per cent.
The daily recoveries for the 45th consecutive day outnumbered the daily new cases. The past 24 hours saw 57,944 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 2,92,51,029, which is 96.75 per cent of the case tally.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.82 per cent which has been less than five per cent for 20 consecutive days.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 40.18 crore people have been tested so far for the virus. Of this, 17,45,809 were tested on Saturday.
On the vaccination front, till now, 32.17 crore people have been administered a vaccine, with 64.25 lakh being inoculated against the virus in the past 24 hours. (UNI)
