COVID-19: India reports less than 60K new cases for first time in 81 days

New Delhi: India on Sunday recorded 58,419 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 2,98,81,965, while the death toll soared to 3,86,713 with 1576 more fatalities.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases declined by 30,776 to stand at 7,29,243. It is now 2.44 per cent of the total caseload.
The past 24 hours saw 87,619 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 2,87,66,009, which is 96.27 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.29 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 39,10,19,083 lakh samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 18,11,446 were tested on Saturday.
Till now 27,66,93,572 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccines, with 38,10,554 being inoculated against the virus in the past 24 hrs. (UNI)
