Bengaluru: A girls' boarding school in Electronic City has been shut till October 20 after 60 students tested positive for Covid-19, according to Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner J Manjunath.

However, there is no cause of worry because out of the 60 students detected positive, only two have been tested symptomatic, he said.

A retesting of the students will be done in a week's time as a precautionary measure and avoid any circulation of the dreaded disease, Manjunath said.

Out of 60 students, 14 are from Tamil Nadu and rest are from various parts of the state, he said.

The district administration sprang into action soon after one student of Sri Chaitanya Girls' Educational Institution on Sunday evening complained of vomiting and diarrhoea.

Manjunath said as many 3000 tests are being conducted every day in Anekal region where the institution is situated.

Manjunath said that 105 rapid antigen tests and 424 RT-PCR were conducted.

Karnataka recently allowed schools to open for Standard 6 to 8, while asking students and staff to follow strict Covid guidelines.

Offline classes for students from Class 9 to Class 12 had been allowed from August 23. (UNI)
