India records 68,020 covid cases, biggest one-day surge since October

New Delhi: India on Monday registered a record 68,020 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 1,20,39,644.
The country witnessed 291 deaths, mounting the death toll to 1,61,843, as per the Union health ministry update.
The active cases rose by 35,498 to stand at 5,21,808. It is now 4.33 per cent of the total caseload.
The past 24 hours saw 32,231 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,13,55,993, which is 94.32 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.34 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 24,18,64,161 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 9,13,319 were tested in the past one day.
On the vaccination front, a total of 6,05,30,435 vaccine doses have been administered, with 2,60,653 vaccinated in the last 24 hours. (UNI)
