India's COVID death toll crosses 1 lakh-mark

New Delhi: India on Saturday became the third country to cross the grim milestone of 1 lakh deaths due to novel coronavirus after 1069 people lost their lives during the past 24 hours.In the same period, 79,476 new cases were reported pan India, pushing the country caseload to 64,73,545.
According to the Union Health Ministry data on Wednesday, a total of 75,628 people recovered in the past one day surging the recoveries to 54,27,706. The current recovery rate stands at 83.70 per cent. The gap between recovered cases and active cases has crossed 44 lakh (44,82,710). With increasing number of recoveries, this gap is continuously widening. 
 
There are 9,44,996 active cases in the country which comprises 14.74 per cent of the total cases while the fatality rate stands at 1.56 per cent.
 
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 11,32,675 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, taking the total cumulative samples tested since the beginning of the pandemic till Friday to 7,78,50,403.(UNI)
