India witnesses sharp spike in Covid cases, logs 3.17 lakh cases in last 24 hrs

New Delhi: India has reported 3,17,532 new cases of Covid-19 and 491 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday.
The active cases stands at 19,24,051 which is now comprise 5.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has decreased to 93.69 per cent.
Meanwhile, 2,23,990 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours increases the total recoveries to 3,58,07,029.
The daily positivity rate is up from 16.41 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 16.06 per cent as per the data.
Meanwhile, India's Omicron tally on Thursday reached 9,287 an increase of 3.63 per cent since yesterday.
On the vaccination front, the government has been continuously speeding up the vaccination drive across the country.
According to the bulletin issued by the Ministry on Thursday 70.93 Crore tests for Covid-19 have been done so far.
“India has administered 159.67 doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive” Ministry data said.
More than 158.96 crores vaccine doses were provided to States/UTs so far.
Over 12.72 the crores balance and unutilized Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered, the ministry said.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra, one of the worst-hit states by the Covid-19 pandemic, recorded 43,697 new coronavirus infections, 10 per cent more than the previous day, including 214 Omicron infections, and also saw 49 fatalities.
Delhi also reported 13,785 new Covid-19 cases and 35 deaths in the last 24 hours.
According to the health bulletin of the Delhi government, the active number of Covid-19 patients in the city reached 75,282.
Out of these, 58,501 patients are in home isolation and 2,624 are admitted to hospitals. (UNI)
