Nearly 60k new cases, Highest spike in 5 months, 257 fatalities

New Delhi: India on Friday recorded a whopping 59,118 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 1,18,46,652.

 
The country witnessed 257 deaths, mounting the death toll to 1,60,949, as per the Union health ministry update on Friday morning.The active cases rose by 25,874 to stand at 4,21,066. It is now 3.55 per cent of the total caseload.
 
The past 24 hours saw 32,987 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,12,64,637, which is 95.09 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.36 per cent.
 
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 23,86,04,638 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 11,00,756 were tested in the past one day.
 
On the vaccination front, a total of 5,55,04,440 vaccine doses have been administered, with 23,58,731 vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
 
Maharashtra under the grip of COVID-19
 
During the past 24 hours total 35,952 fresh cases of corona were spotted across the state, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 26,08,033.
 
While 111 more deaths were also reported, taking the death toll to 53,795.Meanwhile, a total of 20,444 patients recovered and were discharged taking the total number of recoveries to 22,83,037 across the state.
 
With this the recovery rate sharply went down and stood at 87.78 per cent with a fatality rate of 2.09 per cent.At present, 2,62,685 active patients across the state were undergoing treatment at different Covid centres and hospitals, the authorities added.
 
Marathwada being in worse condition
 
The Eight districts of Marathwada region recorded 4,561 fresh cases of covid-19 during the past 24 hours, health authorities informed here on Friday.The region also witnessed 44 more deaths in the past 24 hours.
 
Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI shows that out of the eight districts of the region, Aurangabad district in the region was one of the worst affected district where highest 1595 cases and 18 deaths were reported , followed by Nanded with 1053 new cases and 9 deaths,Jalna registered 450 new cases and 7 deaths, Parbhani 373 cases and 5 deaths ,Beed District 335 cases and 3 deaths ,Hingoli had 56 cases and 2 deaths, Latur had 525 cases and Osmanabad 174 cases.(UNI)
