New Delhi: Stressing that there was a need to prevent the country from COVID-19 lockdown, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged the states to consider lockdown as the last option and the focus should be on creating micro containment zones.
“In today’s situation, we have to save the country from lockdown. I would also request the states to use lockdown as the last option,” Mr Modi said while addressing the nation on the COVID-19 situation.
He requested the state governments to urge the workers to stay where they are.
“My request to the state administration is to keep the trust of the workers alive, urge them to stay where they are,” Mr Modi said.
“This trust given by the states to the workers will help them, and that they will be vaccinated in the city where they are,” the Prime Minister said.
He said that from May 1 onwards, anyone above 18 years of age can be vaccinated.
Mr Modi said till now, more than 12 crore vaccine doses have been administered. (UNI)
