Kamala Harris pledged to be a "president for all Americans" in her speech on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, accepting her party's 2024 presidential nomination.

"On behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on Earth, I accept your nomination for president of the United States," Harris said.

"I know there are people of various political views watching tonight. And I want you to know: I promise to be a president for all Americans," Harris told the audience. "I will be a President who unites us around our highest aspirations. A president who leads — and listens."

She also told voters they have a chance to chart a "new way forward" as Americans this November.

"With this election, our nation has a precious, fleeting opportunity to move past the bitterness, cynicism and divisive battles of the past," Harris said. "A chance to chart a new way forward. Not as members of any one party or faction, but as Americans."

Harris tried to redefine herself for America and draw a sharp contrast with Republican and former President  Donald Trump, saying: "We are not going back."

"In many ways, Donald Trump is an unserious man. But the consequences of putting Donald Trump back in the White House are extremely serious," Harris said.

The vice president also promised to prioritize health care and reproductive rights, as well as stricter border policies, on which Trump had sought to portray her as lenient.

Harris promises to stand with Ukraine and get Gaza cease-fire deal done

Kamala Harris also outlined her foreign policy priorities in her nomination acceptance speech.

She vowed to "stand strong" with Ukraine and NATO allies if she became president.

Harris said that now was the time for a cease-fire in Gaza and a deal to free the Israeli hostages held in Gaza.

"I will always stand up for Israel's right to defend itself," Harris said, while adding: "What has happened in Gaza is devastating" and "heartbreaking."

"President Biden and I are working to end this war such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom and self-determination," Harris said.

She also said she will never "cozy up" to dictators like her Republican opponent Donald Trump has done.

DNC in Chicago comes to an end

Kamal Harris' address closed the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

On the final and most anticipated night of the convention, Harris sought to redefine herself for America as she and Trump enter the final 11 weeks of a razor-thin campaign.

In her speech, she urged Americans to reject political division and warned of the consequences of a Donald Trump victory.

Harris emerged as the Democratic nominee little more than a month ago when allies of President Joe Biden forced him to drop out of the race.

If successful, she will make history as the first woman elected president of the United States.
