With nearly 20 months left for the 2027 Assembly elections, the Gujarat BJP has announced its new organizational team. Under the leadership of state president Jagdish Vishwakarma, Prashant Korat — popularly known as “PK” — has emerged as the most powerful General Secretary in the new setup. He has been appointed General Secretary at the state headquarters and also given charge of crucial regions such as South Gujarat and Surat city, signaling his growing influence within the party organization.
From Youth Wing to State General Secretary
Prashant Korat’s political journey has been both determined and inspiring. In the previous organizational structure, he served as the State President of the BJP Yuva Morcha in Gujarat. A native of Jetpur in Rajkot district, Korat earlier completed two terms as President of the Rajkot BJP Yuva Morcha. His consistent hard work and energetic leadership style have now earned him a role comparable in importance to that once held by Pradeepsinh Vaghela in the state organization.
Political Legacy and Family Background
Prashant Korat comes from a strong political background. His father, Savjibhai Korat, was a senior BJP leader and former minister. After his father’s demise, his mother, Jashuben Korat, was elected MLA from the Jetpur seat three times. Academically accomplished, Korat holds a PhD in Pharmacy from Gujarat University. He began honing his leadership skills during his student years as an active member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

At 38, Prashant Korat has not yet entered direct electoral politics, but he is widely regarded as an expert in organizational strategy. During the 2017 Assembly elections, he respected the party’s decision and campaigned wholeheartedly for another candidate instead of seeking a ticket himself. His disciplined, selfless approach and humble demeanor have made him a trusted confidant of both state president Jagdish Vishwakarma and organizational leaders within the party. Within party circles, he is often referred to as “Mr. Dependable.”
