Earwax (also called cerumen) is a natural substance made by our ears which keeps ears clean, protects against dust, and prevents infections. Normally, earwax comes out on its own. But sometimes it builds up and causes hearing problems, ear fullness or blockage and irritation or pain. Doctors and ear specialists strongly advise against inserting cotton buds (Q?tips) into your ear canal. Cotton buds often push earwax further into the ear canal instead of removing it which creates blockages that can cause hearing loss, discomfort, or infections. Also, accidentally pushing too far can puncture the eardrum, damage ear canal skin, or even harm sensitive inner ear structures. Let’s see how you can safely remove excess earwax at home.
2. Hydrogen Peroxide Ear Drops: Use a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to soften the blockage.
3. Warm Water Rinse: Fill a syringe with warm water. Tilt your head and pour water into the ear gently. Let it sit for a few seconds, then tilt your head to let it drain. Use a clean towel to dry your ear.
