Nag Panchami, falling on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, is a sacred Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of serpents. But beyond the traditional snake rituals, this day holds deep significance for ancestor worship as well. According to scriptures, snakes are considered symbolic of ancestors (Pitra), and thus, performing specific remedies on Nag Panchami can help in mitigating Pitra Dosh—a karmic debt of forefathers that affects the present generation.

Here are 8 simple yet powerful remedies you can perform on Nag Panchami to seek relief from Pitra Dosh and gain ancestral blessings:

1. Worship a Pair of Silver Snakes

On Nag Panchami, worship a pair of silver snakes. After Puja, immerse them in flowing water like a river or stream. This is believed to be one of the most effective remedies for Pitra Dosh.

2. Shivling Abhishek with Milk and Water

Visit a Shiva temple and perform Abhishek with water and raw milk. As Lord Shiva wears serpents around his neck, this ritual pleases the Nag Devta and helps in pacifying Pitra Dosh.

3. Worship the Statue or Image of Nag Devta

Place a picture or idol of Nag Devta at your home’s worship area. Offer milk, turmeric, kumkum, Akshat (rice), and flowers. Recite the mantra - Om Namo Bhagwate Vasukinathay Namah.  Perform Aarti and seek blessings for ancestor peace.

4. Kaal Sarp Dosh Nivaran Remedies

If your horoscope shows Kaal Sarp Dosh, chant the Kaal Sarp Dosh Nivaran Mantra on this day. You may also perform or arrange a Rudrabhishek at a temple for stronger benefits.

5. Worship the Peepal Tree

Light a diya (lamp) under a Peepal tree, believed to be the dwelling place of ancestors. Mix milk with water and pour it at the tree’s roots. Circumambulate (parikrama) the tree while praying for Pitra Shanti (ancestor peace).

6. Donation to Brahmins and the Needy

Donate black sesame seeds (til), urad dal and milk to poor people. Feeding Brahmins and then giving clothes and dakshina to them is said to lessen Saturn and Rahu’s ill effects and bring peace to ancestors.

7. Offer Ancestors’ Favorite Bhog

Prepare the favorite food of your ancestors. Offer it to a cow, crow, or a needy person. This act brings joy to departed souls and earns their blessings.

8. Chant Nag Gayatri Mantra

Recite the Nag Gayatri Mantra - Om Nav Kulaya Vidyamahe Vishdantaya Dhimahi Tanno Sarpah Prachodayat - 108 times with full devotion.
