6 thumb rules of Shraddha : What date is appropriate for the Tarpan of whom

Friday, 16 September 2016 (15:04 IST)
The fortnight of Tarpan Shraddha Paksha has begun. Not every deceased Pitar is not supposed to get a Tarpan on any given day of this fortnight, of course. But what are the specifics if we go further in details. Lets know six thumb rules of Shraddhas.

1) Those who died a natural death on Chaturdashi (14th date of fortnight), should never get a Shraddha on Chaturdashi itself. The appropriate tithi for such Pitar is Trayodadshi (13th date of fortnight) or Amawasya (No moon night).

2) Those who died an unnatural death like an accident, Snakebite, getting poisioned, murder, suicide etc., should never get Shraddha on the date they died. Whichever date day died, their Shraddha would be on Chaturdashi only.

3) Those women who died with their husband still alive, should get Shraddha on the Navami (ninth date of fortnight) only, no matter on what date they died.

4) Acestics get a Shraddha on Dwadashi (twelfth date of fortnight) only, whichever date they died.

5) Maternal grandfather and grandmother should get a Shraddha on Ashwin Shukla Pratipada only, whichever date they died.

6) Those who died a natural death, should get a Shraddha on Bhadrapad Shukla Poornima or Ashwin Krishna Amawasya only.
