Kyiv: Hollywood actor and UN humanitarian Angelina Jolie made a surprise visit to a boarding school and medical institution in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv amid country's war with Russia.

On Saturday, Jolie visited a boarding school, which has become a way point for displaced people, humanitarian aid and weapons.

CNN quoted Maksym Kozytskyy, head of Lviv's regional military administration, "She told the children she'd come back."

In one of the medical institutions, she has visited children who suffered from a missile strike by the Russian military on the Kramatorsk train station. She was very moved by their stories. One girl was even able to tell Jolie about her dream privately.

The actor, who is also a United Nations special envoy for refugees, thanked volunteers providing medical and psychological assistance at Lviv railway station.

Kozytskyy said, "She thanked them for their work. She talked to people who managed to leave the zones of active hostilities. This visit was a surprise for all of us."

UNHCR's Head of Global Communications Joung-ah Ghedini-Williams told the media website on Saturday that "Angelina Jolie is traveling to the region in her personal capacity and UNHCR has no involvement in this visit." (UNI)
