Abu Dhabi: UAE flag carrier Emirates is suspending check-in for flights departing from Dubai International Airport on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. local time (4:00 GMT) until midnight due to bad weather and road conditions.

"Emirates is suspending check-in for passengers departing from Dubai International Airport from 8:00 a.m. on April 17 until midnight, due to operational challenges caused by bad weather and road conditions," the airline said on X.

Passengers are advised to contact their booking agent or visit the company's website to rebook. The company also said that visitors arriving in Dubai and already in transit would continue to be processed.

Dubai International Airport said on social media that it was experiencing significant disruptions caused by heavy rainfall, adding that waterlogging and road closures limited transportation options for arriving and departing visitors. The airport also reported flight delays and diversions.

On Tuesday, the airport cancelled 45 outbound and inbound flights because of the heavy rains battering the United Arab Emirates. Airport operations were suspended for 25 minutes during the day and later resumed.

Abnormally heavy rains lashed at the UAE on Tuesday, causing flooding and disruptions. Dubai suffered the most as the rain resulted in the flooding of roads, including those leading to the Dubai airport, and disrupted one of the two subway lines. People were advised to remain at home, and public workers and schools were asked to work from home.
