Kulbhushan Jadhav meets his mother and wife in Pak

Islamabad: Kulbhushan Jadhav, the Indian sentenced to death in Pakistan, on Monday was allowed to meet his mother Avanti Jadhav and wife Chetankul Jadhav for around 30 minutes, more than a year after he was arrested by the Pakistani army and accused of spying. 

Pakistan's Foreign Office tweeted an image of the two women at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and commented: "We honour our commitments".India rejected Pakistan's claim that since the Indian Deputy High Commissioner accompanied the family, it constituted "consular access". 

Mr Jadhav's mother Avanti Jadhav and wife Chetankul Jadhav were accompanied in the meeting by Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh more for moral support, said officials.The Pakistan Foreign Ministry clarified that the meeting was granted as "a humanitarian gesture on the birthday of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Mohd Ali Jinnah" and should not be seen as "consular access".The mother and wife of arrested Indian Kulbhushan Jadhav arrived in Pakistan on Monday to meet him at the Foreign Office, the Geo TV reported.

According to itinerary details obtained by Geo News, Jadhav’s mother and wife flew in to Islamabad via Dubai. They will meet him on Monday and leave the same day.
According to the Geo TV report, the roads leading from and to the Foreign Office building were closed to traffic ahead of the meeting.Jadhav was arrested on March 3, 2016, from Balochistan, after he entered into Pakistan from Iran. He has been convicted of espionage and sabotage activities. (UNI)
