Paris: Emmanuel Macron narrowly dodged a bag of tomatoes during his surprise visit to a working-class area north of Paris after his re-election as president.
Appearing in his first public appearance since Sunday's vote, Macron on Wednesday strolled around a food market in the town of Cergy, north-west of Paris, shaking hands and posing for selfies, The Guardian reported.
While most people shouted congratulations, some asked for help in finding a job, there were also briefly boos. During the meeting, a bag of tomatoes was thrown towards Macron but it was missed.

The Elysee Palace said that Macron's trip was aimed at "listening to people's concerns, expectations and needs".
According to The Guardian, Macron won a second term at the weekend, beating the far-right candidate Marine Le Pen by 58.5 per cent to her 41.5 per cent, but on the campaign trail he faced accusations of being haughty and aloof and of not understanding people's concerns about the cost of living, housing, jobs and poverty.
