Tumkur: Addressing speculations about the BJP potentially amending the Constitution if they secure 400 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, JDS Supremo HD Deve Gowda on Tuesday clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that there will be no alteration to the Constitution.

"The Prime Minister of this country has made it categorically clear that there is no question of altering the Constitution. Modi has clarified that even if Ambedkar were to be reborn, he would not consider changing it," he told reporters here.

The former Prime Minister also criticised the Congress party for its limited presence across the country, mentioning that it is only prominent in Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana.

Emphasizing the alliance between the BJP and JDS, Gowda expressed confidence in their collaboration, stating that no force can defeat them.

The JDS Supremo's son, HD Kumaraswamy, has filed his nomination from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, which is contested under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

In 2019, an independent candidate, Sumalatha Ambareesh, won against JDS leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy from Mandya Lok Sabha seat and in 2014, JDS leader CS Puttaraju secured the seat against Congress candidate Ramya.

The Lok Sabha election in Karnataka will be held in two phases on April 26 and May 7, with the state having 28 Lok Sabha seats. The election will be held in seven phases across the country, starting on April 19, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.
