West Bengal has been a left bastion for 34 years, ever since Mamta Banerjee led TMC made a mark in state politics. The ongoing violence in the state has indicated that it is going to play a crucial part in the national level politics as well.
In 2014, TMC emerged as the largest party in the state despite the modi wave. The party emerged victorious on 34 seats. While the left won only 4 seats. Congress stood second with 4 seats while the Left and BJP managed to win only two seats.
