Kapurthala: A day after the sacrilege incident at Sri Darbar Sahib in Amritsar on Saturday, a similar case came to light at Nizampur village in this district on Sunday.
An attempt was made to desecrate the Nishan Sahib in Gurdwara Sahib, located opposite the Nizampur police post in the early hours of Sunday. The Sangat at the Gurdwara noticed it and grabbed the culprit. They thrashed the accused, after which police arrived at the spot and locked him in a room.
Heavy police force, including SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, SP (D) Jagjit Singh, SP Traffic Jasvir Singh and DSP Sarwan Singh Bal, have reached the spot. Angry Sikh outfits blocked the road and tense moments were witnessed between the police and the activists of Sikh organisations.
The police then entered the room forcefully, followed by Sikh activists, and in a scuffle that followed, the mob allegedly killed the man.
