Amid relentless heat, dust storm likely in Delhi

New Delhi: The MeT on Monday forecast partly cloudy skies with possibility of dust and thunderstorms in the national capital.

The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 39 degrees Celsius, said the India Meteorological Department and relative humidity recorded at 8.30 am was 61 per cent.

The minimum temperature in the city settled at 27.4 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average.

The weather office has predicted possibility of thunderstorm development at isolated places over Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, east Rajasthan and parts of Uttar Pradesh from Monday, which may bring some relief.

"Dust Storm/Thunderstorm very likely at isolated places over Punjab & Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on 03rd-04th May; over Uttar Pradesh during 02nd-04th and West Rajasthan on 02nd & 03rd May and over East Rajasthan on 03rd May," the IMD tweeted.

India has been reeling under intense heatwave conditions for the past few weeks. The northwest and central India experienced the hottest April in 122 years with average maximum temperatures touching 35.9 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 40.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average. (UNI)
