New Delhi: Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare on Tuesday expressed his disappointment with the Modi dispensation, saying it had failed in fighting corruption by not appointing effective and strong institutions of Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in the states, and also not addressing the farmers' problems.
The Padhma Vibhushan octogenarian announced a nationwide “Satyagraha” on Shaheed Diwas, March 23, next year to draw attention of the Government to these issues.
Addressing a press conference, he said that earlier, the Manmohan Singh regime had failed to arrest the rising corruption in the government and now the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has only brought a watered down version of Lokpal Act.
The social activist said farmers have been committing suicides and holding protests in various states of the country, despite headline-grabbing loan wavers, and this proved that the real issues of the farmers were not being addressed.Mr Hazare said the Lokpal and Lokayuktas (Amendment) Bill, 2016, was passed by the Lok Sabha on July 27, 2016 and by the Rajya Sabha on the next day. And on the third day, on July 28, the President notified it, so the anti-corruption law was made in just three days. (UNI)
